Overview.
The Appstakes is sponsored by McDonald’s Restaurants of Canada Limited (“Sponsor”). For the purposes of the Appstakes, the “Appstakes Entities” means Sponsor and its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates or related companies, franchisees, local advertising cooperatives and app developers, digital/advertising/promotion agencies, and the Appstakes Administrator (defined in Rule 5). In these Official Rules, a person who has an eligible entry in the Appstakes recorded on their behalf (an “Entry”) is called a “Participant”.
The Appstakes Period.
The Appstakes begins on Tuesday, November 3, 2026, at 11:00:00 a.m. Eastern time (“ET”) and ends on Monday, November 30, 2026, at 11:59:59 p.m. ET (the “Appstakes Period”).
Conditions of Eligibility.
Subject to the provisions of this Rule 3, the Appstakes is open to residents of Quebec, Canada only, who are eighteen years of age or older as of November 3, 2026.
Persons in any of the following categories are not eligible to participate in, or to win any Prize (defined below) in the Appstakes:
any person who is not a resident of Quebec, Canada;
any person who, on or after May 3, 2026, was or is a director, officer, employee, member, manager, agent or franchisee of any of the Appstakes Entities (refer to Rule 1);
any individual engaged in the development, production or distribution of materials for the Appstakes; and
any person who is or purports to be an immediate family member (defined as spouse, dependent for federal income tax purposes, step-, biological, foster, in-law or adoptive parent, sibling, child) of, or who resides or is domiciled in the same household as, any person in any of the preceding categories.
To participate for a chance to win by making a purchase, you will need to have the McDonald’s app available from popular mobile app stores in Canada (the “App” or “McDonald’s app”) installed and have registered for an account, or alternatively, you will need to download, register and activate the App using an electronic device that is compatible with the App’s system requirements (“Digital Device”) and a valid email address. Go to Rule 9 for Digital Device requirements.
How To Enter.
NO PURCHASE NECESSARY TO ENTER OR WIN: To enter the Appstakes, you may:
Enter With A Purchase via the McDonald’s App: To receive one (1) Entry, guests who are signed in to their McDonald’s app account must purchase a 6-piece Chicken McNuggets® Extra Value Meal (called “Lane’s Favourite Meal”) during the Appstakes Period, using any of the following methods: scan/enter/say their MyMcDonald’s Rewards code at the counter, kiosk or drive thru; order in the App via McDelivery; order via Mobile Order Pay; or redeem MyMcDonald’s Rewards Points with an order that includes an additional 6-piece Chicken McNuggets® Extra Value Meal.
Enter Without making A Purchase: Individuals who mail a piece of paper on which they manually print their complete name, mailing address (no PO Boxes) including their city, province/territory, and postal code, a daytime telephone number (including area code) as well as the email associated with their McDonald’s app account and mail the piece of paper in a postage paid envelope to: Lane Hutson’s Favourites Appstakes at McDonald’s, PO Box 12650, Saint John New Brunswick, Canada, E2L 5R8 for receipt by November 30, 2026, will receive three (3) Entries.
There is a limit of three (3) Entries per Participant per day during the entire Appstakes Period, regardless of the method of entry used. Any attempted participation outside of the Appstakes Period or attempts, regardless of method, to participate in excess of the limit stated herein (including, without limitation, by providing multiple sets of or false contact information or registering for multiple user accounts) are void and Participant will be disqualified in Sponsor’s sole discretion.
How To Win.
A. McDonald’s Appstakes Draws/Winner Notifications:
A random draw from amongst all eligible Entries received during the Appstakes Period will be conducted on or around January 5, 2027, (the “Draw Date”), at approximately 3:00:00 p.m. ET at the office of the Appstakes Administrator located at 345 N. Morgan Street, Suite 1000, Chicago, Illinois, USA (the “Appstakes Administrator”) to select entrants eligible to win a Prize.
The Appstakes Administrator will randomly select one Entry for each available Prize and three backup Entries for each Prize from among all eligible Entries received during the Appstakes Period. The odds of being selected as eligible to win a Prize will depend on the number of eligible Entries received during the Appstakes Period.
Selected entrants will be notified of selection following the draw at the email address associated with their McDonald’s app account. Before being declared a winner, each selected entrant must first correctly answer without assistance of any kind, whether mechanical or otherwise, a time-limited mathematical skill-testing question (“STQ”). Selected entrants will receive the notification email from Docusign at which point they will be asked to complete a prize claim form or declaration, which includes providing their mailing address and completing the STQ. Following verification, all winners will receive their Prize either by email or mail in approximately four to six weeks.
Return of any Prize or winner notification as undeliverable, inability to reach selected entrant or failure of selected entrant to respond to notification within the time specified, failure to provide proof of eligibility (if requested), or other required documentation in a timely manner or as otherwise specified by Sponsor, failure to correctly answer the STQ, or other non-compliance with these Official Rules may result in disqualification, forfeiture of the Prize and, at Sponsor’s sole discretion, selection of an alternate eligible entrant for the forfeited Prize, who will be subject to disqualification in the same manner.
If the Prize is shipped to an address in Canada and is returned for any reason as undeliverable then that Prize winner may be contacted at the email address associated with their McDonald’s app account or phone number in order to correct the address within five (5) days of contact, or the winner will be disqualified from the Appstakes and the applicable Prize will be forfeited. If, for any reason, a Participant whose Entry is drawn is not declared the winner of the Prize, then that Prize winner will not have any claim against the Appstakes Entities, or against any other person, firm or corporation in respect of the Prize, the Appstakes or any matter related to the Appstakes. The Appstakes Administrator will not contact more than three backup potential winners for any Prize.
Prizes, Approximate Retail Value (“ARV”).
There are a total of twenty-four (24) Prizes available to be won (each a “Prize”), as follows:
One (1) Grand Prize: The winner of this Prize will receive a trip for two to Bolzano, Italy. Prize includes round trip economy-class air travel departing from the nearest international airport near winner’s home in Quebec to Bolzano, Italy; 7 nights’ accommodations (one double occupancy standard room) and $3,000 for meals, ground transportation and expenses. ARV: $13,000.
One (1) Hockey Game Experience Prize. The winner of this Prize will receive two tickets and $800 for travel/expenses to a 2027 professional hockey game in Montreal including a meet-and-greet with Lane Hutson. Date to be provided by Sponsor in their sole discretion. ARV: $2,400.
Two (2) $1,500 Cash Prizes: Each winner will receive a $1,500 cash prize, to be awarded by cheque.
Five (5) Psycho Bunny Digital Gift Card Prizes: Each winner will receive a $500 Psycho Bunny Digital Gift Card. ARV: $500.
Five (5) Sports Rousseau Digital Gift Card Prizes. Each winner will receive a $550 Sports Rousseau Digital Gift Card. ARV: $550.
Ten (10) McDonald’s Gift Card Prizes: Each winner will receive a $100 McDonald’s Gift Card. ARV: $100.
Limit: One (1) Prize per person.
Prize/Entry Conditions/Restrictions.
Any matters concerning Prizes that are not contemplated by these Official Rules will be determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion.
Additional Terms Applicable to Prizes: Prizes will be awarded only to verified winners in Canada. Prizes must be accepted as awarded and may not be substituted, transferred or redeemed for cash or otherwise, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. The Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize of equal or greater monetary value, in cash or otherwise, at its sole discretion, if a Prize, or any component of any Prize, cannot be awarded for any reason. Sponsor will not replace any lost or stolen Prizes. Sponsor makes no representations or warranties with respect to any Prize. Any and all costs, fees and expenses not expressly stated in the Prize descriptions are the sole responsibility of the Prize winner. Any difference between the ARV and the actual value will not be awarded and any difference will not be refunded. No insurance is provided as part of a Prize, and obtaining any insurance, such as but not limited to property loss or damage insurance is the sole responsibility of the winner.
Additional Grand Prize Conditions: Prize winner and guest must travel together on the same itinerary and are solely responsible for having (and producing if/as required) any necessary travel-related documents (including valid government-issued photo ID and/or any required passport or visa and/or any properly completed and sworn parental consent form or forms) prior to departure, as well as fulfilling any/all travel and security requirements that may be required). Guest (and in the event of a Minor, their parent or legal guardian) will be required to execute a guest release prior to the issue of any travel documents. Any and all costs/fees (including, but not limited to, departure taxes or fees, inspection charges, luggage fees and the costs of transportation between winner’s home and departure airport) and expenses not expressly stated as being included in the Prize description are the sole responsibility of the Prize winner. Any difference between the ARV and the actual value of the Prize will not be awarded and any difference will not be refunded. No insurance whatsoever is provided as part of the Prize or furnished by the Sponsor, and obtaining any insurance, such as (but not limited to) travel insurance, cancellation insurance, trip delay, health, accident or medical insurance, and property or luggage loss or other damage insurance is the sole responsibility of the Prize winner and at the sole cost of the Prize winner and that Prize winner’s guest. Air travel will be round-trip (originate from and end at the same airport), economy-class from and to an airport selected by Sponsor. Reservations must be made and tickets issued prior to travel. Tickets may not be reissued once travel has commenced. Open tickets may not be issued, and stopovers are not permitted. Sponsor reserves the right in its respective sole discretion to designate all flight/travel particulars and route or routes (as the case may be). Flight schedules are subject to change without notice. No Released Party (defined below) will be liable for any missed opportunities or expenses incurred as a consequence of flight cancellation/travel restrictions/delay or ground transportation delay. Sponsor makes no express or implied warranties of any kind with respect to safety, or performance, of the trip/travel services package or any component thereof. If the winner (and/or the winner’s guest) is/are not able to participate in any portion of the Grand Prize, that unused portion will not be substituted for cash or in any other way. Prize winner may be required to provide a current valid major credit card at time of hotel check-in to cover incidentals, and any and all costs, fees and expenses not expressly stated as being included in the Prize description. Restrictions and/or blackout dates may apply to the Grand Prize. Once the winner has identified a guest in accordance with the provisions of these Official Rules, that guest cannot be changed without the express consent of Sponsor, which consent may be withheld for any reason. The Grand Prize winner (and in consideration of being permitted by the Sponsor to participate in the Grand Prize, the guest) agrees to behave in accordance with all applicable laws and generally accepted social practices in connection with the travel related to the Grand Prize and in connection with participation in any Prize-related event or activity
Note: No Grand Prize winner or their guest may sell, transfer or dispose of any part of the Grand Prize to any other person without the Sponsor’s prior written consent which may be withheld in their sole discretion.
Additional Hockey Game Experience Prize Conditions: Prize winner and guest must comply with any rules, terms, and conditions imposed in connection with attendance at the professional hockey game (e.g., conditions accompanying the tickets, rules about behaviour in the venue, etc.).
General Entry Conditions: Each Participant acknowledges and agrees that the decisions of Sponsor and/or the Appstakes Administrator are and shall be final, binding and conclusive in all matters relating to the Appstakes. Any person attempting to defraud Sponsor in any way in connection with this Appstakes may be prosecuted to the fullest extent permitted under the law. In the event of a dispute concerning the identity of a Participant, the Participant will be the registered account holder of the email address associated with the disputed Entry, but only if that person meets all other eligibility criteria. Otherwise, the Entry may be disqualified, and any Prize potentially won will be forfeited in Sponsor’s sole discretion. A registered account holder is defined as the natural person who is assigned to an email address by an Internet access provider, online service provider or other organization (e.g., business, educational institution, etc.) that is responsible for assigning email addresses for the domain associated with the applicable email address. The Prize winner may be required to show proof of being the registered account holder.
General Release And Conditions of Participation.
The Appstakes Entities are not responsible for:
incomplete, misdirected, late, lost, garbled, unintelligible, damaged, stolen, non-delivered Entries or a Prize (as applicable) or other Appstakes‑related materials whether caused by Participants, postal or courier services, wireless carriers, Internet Service Providers (“ISP”) or unauthorized human intervention;
any damage to a Participant’s or other person’s computer system or Digital Device that is caused or occasioned by accessing the McDonald’s app, by participating in the Appstakes or by claiming the Prize;
technical difficulties or failures of any kind including, but not limited to, lost, interrupted, inaccessible or unavailable networks, servers, satellites, Internet, Digital Device or wireless carriers, websites or other connection, availability or accessibility problems arising in connection with or over the course of the Appstakes;
miscommunications, failed, jumbled, scrambled, delayed, dropped, interrupted, lost, non-delivered or misdirected computer, telephone, Digital Device, email, mobile or cable transmissions or hardware, software, program or programming malfunctions, failures or difficulties of any kind including, but not limited to: malfunctions, interruptions or disconnections in transmissions or connections, phone lines, network hardware or software, computers, equipment, programming errors, cable, satellite, cellular tower or ISP or wireless carriers;
any technical malfunctions, failures, or difficulties, printing errors or omissions, clerical, typographical or other errors or omissions in any Appstakes advertisement or other materials or postings or any Prize claim documents;
any errors, omissions or failures of any kind, whether human, mechanical, clerical, electronic, interruption of power, digital, mobile or technical in nature, or unauthorized human intervention;
any incorrect or inaccurate information, whether caused by the McDonald’s app or tampering, hacking or by any equipment or programming associated with, or utilized in the Appstakes; or
the incorrect or inaccurate capture of information or the failure to capture or loss of any information.
Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any person who is found to be tampering or interfering in any way with the operation or conduct of the Appstakes, to be acting in violation of these Official Rules, or to be acting in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner, or with the apparent intent to disrupt or undermine the legitimate operation of the Appstakes, or to annoy, abuse, threaten or harass any other person. The Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages and other remedies from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Entries submitted become the sole property of Sponsor and will not be returned. Sponsor shall not be responsible to correspond with Participants. By participating in the Appstakes, each Participant hereby releases and agrees to hold the Appstakes Entities and all of their respective shareholders, officers, directors, agents, representatives and employees (collectively the “Released Parties”) harmless from and against any and all costs, injuries, losses or damages of any kind, including, without limitation, property damage, death and bodily injury (whether due to negligence or otherwise), due in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, to participation in the Appstakes or in any Appstakes‑related activity or the receipt, use or misuse of the Prize or portion thereof, or the merchandise for which it is redeemed. Participants waive the right to assert as a cost of winning the Prize, any and all costs of verification and redemption or travel to claim the Prize and any liability and publicity which might arise from claiming or seeking to claim the Prize. By participating in the Appstakes, the Prize winner hereby agrees and grants Sponsor the right, but not the obligation, to the use of their name, voice and likeness, along with their address (city and province/territory) and any statements made by or attributed to such Prize winner in any and all media, now known or hereafter devised, without prior notice, review, comment or approval, in perpetuity and throughout the world for advertising, commercial and promotional purposes in connection with the Sponsor, the Appstakes and other promotions without further compensation, and releases the Appstakes Entities from any liability with respect thereto. Where applicable, Sponsor will provide you with the ability to opt-out from Sponsor’s use of such information for advertising, commercial or promotional purposes.
Technical Requirements For Using the McDonald’s app.
Note: Browser must have JavaScript and Cookies enabled.
Device Requirements:
Devices must be capable of displaying HTML and XHTML content in order to access the Appstakes.
Screen Resolution Requirements:
Using a mobile viewport screen lower than 375px wide may result in a Participant not being able to access or use the McDonald’s app when they tap on the promotional banner.
Non-Supported Browsers and Operating Systems:
Using a browser or device not supported may prevent access to the Appstakes.
While all efforts are made to support current browsers, operating systems and devices, new operating systems, browsers and devices may not be supported if brought to market after the development of the Appstakes and may affect the Participant’s experience in the McDonald’s app when they tap on the promotional banner. Sponsor is not responsible for any browser, operating system or device supporting issues.
Miscellaneous.
General:
It is each Participant’s responsibility to ensure that they have complied with all of the conditions and requirements contained in these Official Rules.
Force Majeure/Printing and Production Errors or Omissions:
Subject to any governmental approval that may be required, the Sponsor reserves the right, without prior notice and at any time, to terminate the Appstakes, in whole or in part, or to modify, suspend or extend the Appstakes, if it determines, in its sole discretion, that the Appstakes in any way and for any reason is impaired or corrupted or that fraud or technical problems, failures or malfunctions (including, without limitation, computer viruses, computer system overload or any other kind of electronic or other overload, glitches or printing or production errors or omissions) have destroyed or severely undermined the proper play, integrity and/or feasibility of the Appstakes. In the event that, in the Sponsor’s sole opinion, the Sponsor is impeded or prevented from continuing with the Appstakes as planned or intended by any event beyond its control, including, but not limited to, pandemic, fire, flood, natural or manmade epidemic or crisis, earthquake, explosion, labour dispute or strike, act of God or public enemy, satellite, network or equipment failure, riot or civil disturbance, terrorist threat or activity, war (declared or undeclared), any federal, provincial, territorial or local government law, order or regulation, public health crisis, the order of any court or jurisdiction, or by any other cause not reasonably within the Sponsor’s control, then subject to any governmental approval which may be required, the Sponsor shall have the right to modify, suspend, extend or terminate the Appstakes.
Invalidity:
The invalidity or unenforceability of any provision of these Official Rules shall not affect the validity or enforceability of any other provision. In the event that any provision is determined to be invalid or otherwise unenforceable or illegal, these Official Rules shall otherwise remain in effect and shall be construed in accordance with their terms as if the invalid or illegal provision were not contained herein. Headings and captions are used in these Official Rules solely for ease of reference and shall not be deemed or considered to affect in any manner the meaning or intent of these Official Rules or any provision hereof. These Official Rules cannot be modified or amended in any way except in writing by a duly authorized representative of the Sponsor. Subject to the provisions of these Official Rules, employees of the Sponsor, or of any of its franchisees, are not authorized to modify, amend or waive these Official Rules.
Governing Law:
Subject to any provision expressly to the contrary in these Official Rules, all issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules or the rights and obligations as between one or more Participants and the Sponsor in connection with the Appstakes shall be governed by and construed and interpreted in accordance with the federal laws of Canada, and in accordance with the laws of the Province of Quebec, Canada, including the procedural provisions of those Quebec laws, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions that would cause or bring about the application of any other jurisdiction’s laws. All Participants, the Sponsor and all other parties hereby attorn to the jurisdiction of the courts of the Province of Quebec, sitting in City of Montreal, Quebec, in respect of the determination of any matter or dispute arising under or in respect of the Appstakes or these Official Rules and agree that any such determination shall be brought solely and exclusively before such courts in the Province of Quebec.
Discrepancies:
In the event there is a discrepancy or inconsistency between disclosures or other statements contained in any Appstakes materials or in any Prize claim documents, or in advertising or other publicity or materials or communications concerning or related to the Appstakes, and the provisions in these Official Rules, the provisions in these Official Rules shall prevail, govern and control.
Privacy:
Sponsor will collect, use and disclose information, including personal information, provided by Participants in connection with the Appstakes for the purposes of administering the Appstakes and fulfilling the Prizes. Participants may be offered the opportunity to receive additional communications from Sponsor about its products and upcoming Appstakes and promotions. The Appstakes may be hosted on servers in the United States, and the personal information provided by Participants may therefore also be subject to the laws of the United States. Except as otherwise contemplated in these Official Rules, personal information collected, used and disclosed by the Sponsor in connection with the Appstakes will be dealt with by the Sponsor in accordance with the Sponsor’s online privacy policy.
